Old-Timer Turns Hip – Daddy O Restaurant and Hotel, Long
Beach Island, is featured in the May 18, 2007 issue of the Philadelphia
Inquirer. Balongue Design partnered with Marty Grums to turn an 80 year-old
old-fashioned seaside resort into a hip, chic boutique hotel.

A Little Luxe on the Jersey Shore – In the April 13, 2007 issue
of the New York Times, a review of new hotels on the Jersey Shore features
recently opened Daddy O. The 22 rooms feature top-notch amenities, the
glittering Murano wallcovering sparkles in the sun, and the warmly decorated
lobby invites guests to sit back and relax. A chic New York hotel comes to
Long Beach Island!

What’s Old Is New Again – Balongue Design revamped and restored the Clubhouse
at St. Davids Golf Club in Wayne, PA. The March 2007 article tells the tale
of how the clubhouse was in disrepair, membership was declining and it was
time for a change. The new clubhouse opened in November of 2006 and features
banquet areas, locker rooms, a golf pro shop and a dramatic member dining
area and bar. Since the opening of the new facilities, St. Davids has a
waiting list for members, the first in years!
Main Line Life
Dishing Up Designs - Balongue Design is featured in
the August 13, 2003 issue of Main Line Life. Design is an important
element to any dining experience and Barbara proves it with her eye
on color theory, lighting and acoustics. She explains her process and
success with her interior designs in restaurants and other settings
in the Philadelphia area.
Tango’s Unique Design – Balongue is featured
in Main Line Life in the Recipe of the Week. The contemporary American
bistro, Tango, speaks of their casual fine dining experience and how
Barbara created the perfect atmosphere for them. The design is like
a marriage of antique farmhouse and velvet underground.
Home and Design
Making a Stable Their Home – Barbara Balongue
and architect husband, Jim Carter, are both featured in the Nov/Dec
2003 issue of Home & Design. The couple purchased a stable and workers'
living quarters on the nearly 100-year old former Morris Clothier estate
in Villanova and turned it into a 5,000 square foot home and office
complex.
Hospitality Design
Best New Interiors That Float – Hospitality Design
highlights Best New Interiors That Float in their August 2003 issue.
Balongue Design, known for its portfolio of restaurant interiors, recently
completed a redesign of the historic Moshulu restaurant, a 99-year-old,
four-mast sailing ship.
Philadelphia Magazine
Waterside Respites – In Philadelphia Magazine’s
July 2003 issue the restaurant ship Moshulu is highlighted. Villanova
designer Barbara Balongue replaced the faux-Victorian trimmings with
breezy bamboo, rattan and woven materials reminiscent of a luxurious
tropical resort.
A Shot of Bourbon – Balongue’s work on
the Manayunk restaurant, Bourbon Blue is noted in Philadelphia Magazine
in their January 2003 issue. Balongue Design renovated the dining room,
which evokes a French Quarter balcony, with high ceilings, exposed brick,
and the requisite wrought iron.
Inquirer Magazine
Downsizing the Dream - Husband-and-wife team Barbara
Balongue and Jim Carter of Hillier Architects are featured in the July
22, 2001 issue of Inquirer Magazine. Barbara and Jim help make a carriage
house into a comfortable dream home for Sara and Jonathon Klein.
Full Circle – Barbara and Jim’s beautiful
home is featured in Inquirer Magazine’s April 8, 2001 issue. The
Villanova property, which use to be a horse barn, was bought soon after
they were married and they have been turning it into a home ever since.
Delaware Today
Ronald McDonald House – In Delaware Today’s
Sept 1991 issue, Barbara’s work is acknowledged for the new Ronald
McDonald house, located north of Wilmington. Many of the interior materials
were donated, like the carpeting, wall coverings, upholstery fabrics,
and ceramic tiles and Barbara’s job was to pull it all together.
Interior International Design Association
Design Annual Award 2001 – One of Balongue’s
interior design works for retirement community projects is featured
in Design Annual’s March, 2001 issue. Expanding its mission into
the suburbs of Philadelphia, Simpson Senior Services opened Simpson
Meadows in April 2000 with 66 apartments for independent living, 28
for catered care, 37 for assisted living and 19 for memory-impaired
residents.
Best Commercial Renovation – The International
Interior Design Association awarded the Best Commercial Renovation,
under $100,000 to Sharpe Builders and Barbara Balongue in1998. The team
took a storefront and apartment and transformed them into an office
furniture showroom with amazing results.
